Weekend of the 5th June 1999

After an epic 14 hour day (4 of these in the dark) we managed to climb the first two pitches of Passport to Insanity in the Grampains. Here is some stats....

8am start

1 hour walk in

1 hour search in mist for climb

3 hour aid/free ascent of first pitch by Nick

0 degree temps and massive rain

2 hour aid/free ascent of roof pitch by me

2 hour epic fixed rope descent off roof

3 biners, 1 hex & 3 slings left behind

3 hour night descent of walking track

9pm arrive at car

4 hour drive back to Melbourne

Nick ponders the next days aiding adventure on the top of Mackeys Peak, The Grampains.

Nick displays superb manners whilst racking up at the base of Passport to Insanity. Notice the huge mists and the selection of large cams!

Nick sets up the first pitch, a 50m long offwidth. Soon after he resorted to aiders when he couldn't feel his fingers from the cold.

The clouds parted just at the right time! Thats me on the lip of the six metre long roof crack that is the second pitch.

In freezing dusk conditions Nick cleans the second pitch. I only used two cams on the entire roof.
