Bogong

Weekend Report of the 10th of June 2000

This is a photo essay on our long weekend of snow camping, mountaineering and snowboarding on Mt Bogong (1998m).

Mt Bogong with the township of Mt Beauty in the foreground. We climbed the Staircase Ridge which is on the leftside of the photo.

10am Saturday - Nick breaks trial up the untrodden knee deep snow on the Staircase Ridge.

3pm Saturday - Jono sets up his new tent in our chopped out snow platform.

Sunday 8am - Jono checks out his first mountaineering objective. We all solo climbed the easy snow gullys betwen these rocks to the summit.

Sunday 9am - The summit. left to right - Neil, Nick and Jono

Sunday 9am - The surreal summit ridge.

Sunday 1pm - Jono 'the man' tucks into some lunch treats before hitting the slopes (face first?)

Saturday 2pm - Neil tries speed toboganning.

Monday 7.30am - Neil above small cornices on the Staircase Ridge.

Monday 8am - Jono enters the dark world of mountain 'cragging'

Monday 9am - Neil discovers good ice and starts bouldering.

Monday 9.30am - Neil starts up a small waterfall ice formation.

Monday 11am - Neil takes a long, last look at the mountain before descent to job and respectable life.

Monday 2pm - Back in the car park the team celebrates a successful mission!
