Weekend Reports

Crowds Savage Grampians

Weekend of the 26th January 2001

A huge group of us set out for the long weekend in the Grampains. All up there was eight of us, myself, Jono, Alister, Kathy, Stu, Lee, Andy and Nick. Because of dubious weather we headed straight to the Gallery for some fun sport climbing.

I ticked a 25 2nd shot, as did several others from the group. Nick played on Chasing the Shadow (27) but didn't get the redpont and we all got massivly pumped.

Stu doing what he feels comfotable with, - bouldering! The Gallery

After a fantastic swim at McKenzie Falls we retired to our bush camp near The Asses Ear and ate well.

Next morning I was up bright and early, and dragged the team up to the new area I had been develping below Triptych on Asses Ear main face. I battled up a redpoint attempt of my new project, but after breaking a criticle hold I decided to give it a rest. Our hands were trashed from the previous days efforts. Nick onsighted a short little route on a large boulder, whilst I ticked the direct version. Both were solid grade 21's with fairly tricky pro. The rock has a real gritstone like feel to it, and our hands were getting more painful by the minute. Whilst everyone did laps repeating Run Rings (21), Stu fought hard and eventually ticked the repeat of my boulder problem Fisting V3. To finish the day off we did a few more laps of Run Rings, several of the guys soloed Chicken Run (11) and Andy fell up my project. He managed to solve the upper crux with the snapped off hold so that made me happy. We all packed up early, in the blazing sun, and went for another extended swim in the crystal clear water of McKenzie Falls.

Neil works his project (24?) on the Chicken Boulder at Asses Ear.
Lee ticks the 2nd ascent of Run Rings (21), Chicken Boulder, Asses Ear
Stu, spotted by Alister, attempts a new boulder problem on the Turkey Boulder, Asses Ear.
Nick onsights his new line Cold Turkey (21) on the Turkey Boulder, Asses Ear.
Andy tries a redpoint of an unclimbed project on the Chicken Boulder, Asses Ear.
